How to Fix WhatsApp Not Sending Messages
When WhatsApp shows one grey tick, your message is not reaching the server. This is almost always a connection or account issue.
Likely causes
- No internet connection or weak signal
- WhatsApp servers down
- Phone date and time set incorrectly
- WhatsApp needs an update
- Account banned or blocked
Step-by-step fix
-
1
Check your internet connection
Open a browser and load a webpage. If the internet is not working, fix that first.
-
2
Toggle Airplane mode
Turn Airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off. This refreshes your mobile data or WiFi connection.
-
3
Check WhatsApp server status
Visit downdetector.co.uk/status/whatsapp to check for outages. If servers are down, wait and try again.
-
4
Check your phone date and time
Go to Settings โ General management โ Date and time โ enable "Automatic date and time". Incorrect time prevents WhatsApp from connecting.
-
5
Update WhatsApp
Open the App Store or Google Play and update WhatsApp to the latest version.
-
6
Clear WhatsApp cache (Android)
Settings โ Apps โ WhatsApp โ Storage โ Clear Cache. This does not delete your messages.
